Project Subsidy for the Commemorative Year of Slavery History

Subsidy amount: €25,000
Subsidy provider: NiNsee / OCW
Subsidy manager: NGO Platform Bonaire

Background
In June 2023, NiNsee made an amount of 25,000 dollars available to the NGO Platform on the occasion of the commemorative year of slavery history. This amount was intended for projects by foundations and initiatives that wanted to contribute to education and awareness-raising. After all, to achieve change or opinion formation, it is crucial that sufficient knowledge is available as a basis. The project was titled ‘Di unda mi ta bin’ (Where do I come from).

Ten projects were implemented between October and December 2023, involving approximately 350 participants. The mandatory collaboration with at least one other NGO proved to be a great success. It not only promoted joint efforts but also increased cooperation between various organizations.

In addition, the mandatory communication plans contributed to broader awareness and involvement in the projects. Afterward, an impact video was made.

Second Subsidy Round
After an evaluation between NiNsee and the NGO Platform, and given the positive results of the project, it was decided to make another $25,000 available to the NGO Platform to finance new projects. Because the projects must be completed by December 15 2024, the subsidy conditions and application process have been simplified and the budgets adjusted. Although the subsidy amount per project has been increased, this means that fewer projects can be approved if the maximum amount per project is requested.

The scheme will open on a date to be determined and will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis. This does not take into account whether the applicant has previously had a project approved or has a healthcare contract.

However, it must be a ‘new’ project that has not yet started and has not been previously carried out under this subsidy.

Conditions:
– Applications up to a maximum of $4,000 for foundations and associations
– Applications up to $1,500 for other legal forms, provided it can be demonstrated that it concerns a non-profit project or activity
– There must be collaboration with at least 1 other NGO (either for the target group or as a collaboration partner)
– Venue rental up to a maximum of $20 per hour
– A budget must be submitted
– Promotion and communication for/about the project must be described. Participation in communication is mandatory. Projects must be registered with NGO Platform with a short description (see format)
– The project must be accessible to all residents of Bonaire

What the subsidy cannot be used for:
– Overhead costs
– Transportation

Fundashon Akseso provides community centers free of charge for projects arising from this scheme that require a location, subject to availability.
NGO Platform can help find solutions for finding a suitable alternative location.

Instead of a meeting like last time, where all approved projects were presented, this time we invite project leaders to record a 3-minute maximum pitch at the NGO Platform. In this pitch, you can talk about the project, such as the goal, target group, and expected impact. We will schedule an appointment with you for this.

Step-by-step plan:

1. Call and Submit NGO Contributions
NGOs can submit a proposal for a contribution as long as the budget is sufficient.
The call for this will be distributed via (social) media and the NGO Platform network.

2. Assessment
An independent committee, together with the coordination team of NGO Platform, will evaluate the applications as quickly as possible, within a maximum of 10 working days. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible.
